one step forward two steps backwards

i had a dream last night about turtles. at first i only saw one in the box. then after some confusion and hesitation i lifted up the log inside the box and out from underneath came at least 4 more turtles of all sizes. and that's all i remember. i looked into what dreams about turtles mean and i'm still not sure what to think. some sites say that i will have good luck coming my way, others say that i need to slow down and be careful. we live in an information overload world. there seems to always be 2 opposite explanations for everything. which one do i choose?  instead of going forward with all this information, we're going backwards... but hey, at least we're having fun, aren't we?

It feels good to see how things seem to be sizzling despite the biting cold out there.
First I'd like to start with what might be the most beautiful, intriguing, downright compelling piece of music I've recently come across. You must have heard of them before. I'm talking about The Knife, the renowned Swedish duo, who just released their album "Tomorrow, In A Year". I haven't granted enough time to the whole record (yet), but surely the teaser song "Colouring Of Pigeons" is now engraved deep upon the walls of my spindly flesh.



It's baffling how poignant this is to me. The melody rumbles on with precision in an expanding swirl of strings, howling, creaking, shrewdly whining in your ears. It's raw, violent and tender all at once. I should admit I adore this kind of paradoxical concoction of emotions.
If you haven't heard the track already, then you're lucky. It'll certainly be a rocky journey.

I've got kind of an obsessive personality. When my brain stumbles on something it fancies, it proves hard to steer clear of the thought. It's like glued to my synapses.
I'm crazy about Deer Hunter. These guys are unbearable. In a good way. A very good way. SO talented I'm literally dying of jealousy. Ha ha !
After all this delirious ranting, let's get to the point. I hope you'll enjoy this little selection from the albums "Weird Era Continued" and "Microcastle".

good idea Jo Jo. we need to keep things light and happy during these harsh cold days. who is better to help carry us away into a fun semi-surreal yet simple world than Michel Gondry. Here's his new video for Mia Doi Todd "Open Your Heart"  This is the first time I've heard her and she sounds to me like a mix between a female version of Jose Gonzalas with a little touch of Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66, which is nice because all of them really do make me think of a warmer tropical environment. You guys are welcome to come over anytime for a tropical samba bossa nova party. I'll crank up the heat and we'll dance and pretend we're in South America and do Southern American things. btw if you had to choose, who would u guys like better Michel Gondry or Spike Jonze?

i've got a case of the mondays

it's monday, and don't fuckin feel like workin in the office today. i'm so lethargic that i don't feel like typing anymore right now. just watch the fuckin office revolution videos already

Oh yeah... so I've never been much of a fan of Charlotte Gainsbourg's music, but I am a devoted Beck fan and since she's collaborated with him on her latest album she gets a few extra points on my scale giving her a B on a scale from 75 to 151(75 being Nutella, 151 being Tropical Rainforest). She gets 10 more points for wearing a sexy tennis skirt in the video, but she loses 5 for holding a baby, but then gets 5 more for having possibly the most random video ever. it's worth watching atleast 2 times to catch all the bizarre stuff happening in the background. total score = quagmire yahtzee 7.5 orange.

I'm delighted you guys started posting. Many thanks out to you all.

This week has been intense, hectic, physically, emotionally and of course, musically.

It's startling how sometimes you shilly-shally through your day and every little thing seems out of place, like dropped from separate puzzles, incapable of fitting together. Despite this seething kerfuffle of worried thoughts I chanced upon Andrew Bird's Noble Beast which had been lounging in my ipod for a while.
Andrew always amazes me with his beautifully written lyrics, soothing though not devoid of tension. It's highly-strung, strongly emotional, in an outstanding and very mature way.
"Love of hate acts as an axis
First it wanes and then it waxes
So procreate and pay your taxes"
I never found the timbre of his voice that compelling on his previous albums (don't get me wrong, he does sing sublimely, I'm only talking about the colour of his falsetto and tremolos). On Noble Beast, he croons with less pomposity, at turns subdued and peppy, at times slowing down, fading out into quivering moans. Some bits remind me of Thom Yorke's wobbly sobs. For some reasons, the whole airy vibe alludes to my beloved Midlake (look them up if you haven't already, the album Trials Of Van Occupanther is a killer, and they'll be playing Grand Mix on april 15 by the way.)

Well, I admit he bears a fairly dire barnet but so it goes.
